Extracorporeal Support

ECMO

Membrane oxygenation technology that supports respiratory and circulatory function outside the body, developed as an integrated, engineering-led system.

Overview

Understanding the technology

Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) draws blood from the body, adds oxygen and removes carbon dioxide through a membrane, and returns the conditioned blood to circulation. It is used to support patients whose heart or lungs require sustained assistance.

Sardhara Medical approaches ECMO as a complete system rather than a set of parts - pump, oxygenator, circuit, sensing and control developed together so that each element is engineered around the behaviour of the whole. Our work is guided by close collaboration with clinicians who work in critical care.

Technology Architecture

How the system fits together

At a conceptual level, an ECMO system moves blood through a controlled pathway while a supervisory layer maintains awareness of the circuit.
